What is a Community Action Project?

The Fellows program costs the Academy approximately $6,000 per individual, but we only ask the Fellows to pay $900 for the year. The remainder is paid by local foundations and corporations committed to infusing Memphis with inspired, active leaders.  The Fellows are expected to pay back this gift to the community in the form of a Community Action Project (CAP). The Fellows work in teams to create and implement CAPs meeting needs ranging from education and healthcare to arts and urban planning. During the development of their projects, ideas and feedback from Academy Alumni, peers, community leaders and Academy staff, ensure that each CAP effectively meets a community need. These projects leverage the strengths of existing community organizations and create a lasting effect on Memphis.

Below are a few examples of the more than 75 CAPs currently at work in Memphis.
