Mentoring through The Grizzlies Charitable Foundation
The Academy encourages you to consider mentoring as an option to impact positive change in Memphis. The Memphis Grizzlies Charitable Foundation offers multiple opportunities for those interested in serving as mentors.
Find a program that fits your schedule and interest through the Grizzlies Foundation’s extensive referral network including the Boys and Girls Club of America, Memphis Athletic Ministries, Youth Villages, Memphis City Schools-CONNECT and a host of others. The Grizzlies Foundation has a charity to fit your skills, your schedule, and your comfort level!
This school-based program provides group mentoring by matching 3 volunteer mentors with 9 students to form a TEAM. TEAMs meet weekly to participate in activities centered on a weekly objective. Currently the TEAM mentoring option is available at Power Center Academy and Freedom Preparatory Academy.
The Grizzlies Foundation also offers a variety of benefits and opportunities to support and develop mentors such as:
Training Opportunities
The Memphis Mentoring Partnership offers a variety of training workshops for mentors throughout the year to help build skills and to enhance your mentoring relationship.
Mentor Networking
Throughout the year, the Grizzlies Foundation hosts events and gatherings to recruit mentors and to give current mentors opportunities to discuss issues, share stories and meet one another.
“TEAMmates” is the Grizzlies Foundation’s initiative to stay connected to those who sign up to mentor through the Grizzlies. It’s also an effort to build a network among mentors in Memphis by regularly communicating with mentors, taking feedback from mentors, hosting special educational and social events for mentors and recognizing mentors’ dedication and efforts to “go above and beyond” to help young people.
For Academy Alumni mentoring Memphis' youth is a natural extension of the Academy’s “leadership chain” where Academy alumni and others interact with one another to share experiences, serve as role models and create lasting community change.
