If you want your team members to become better teachers, principals, or district leaders, they need professional learning experiences that will stick and enable them to truly shift their practice. Facilitating that kind of learning means moving away from the traditional sit-and-get approach to professional development and instead leading sessions that are flexible, adaptive, and push participants’ thinking. Leading Professional Learning that Sticks offers facilitators of professional learning at every level of the school system the opportunity to experience the The Leadership Academy’s research-based approach to facilitating learning. Learn how to create conditions for and facilitate learning that supports your team members in examining their practice and consider when and how aspects of your identity inform your facilitation moves and decision-making. Over the two days, you will move through the roles of curriculum designer, facilitator, and student and learn first-hand to create a collaborative learning environment with your teams. Walk away from this session knowing how to:
- Tailor teaching strategies like mini-lessons, simulations, role-plays, and coaching to meet your team’s needs
- Provoke and contain discomfort in the service of learning
- Design strategic, focused interventions in order to push thinking
- Stimulate and sustain conversations about equity and race
